Part 1:

For a race car driver, maximizing the speed at which his (or her) vehicle can negotiate a given corner is critical.  In order to do this the driver must utilize 100% of the available tire grip at all times.  This might mean using all of the grip for braking, turning, acceleration or a combination (google “race car friction circle” for more information on this beat-to-death topic).    What if the driver can only use 90% of the available grip, because the last 10% of grip is solely available at the back of the car which causes the front tires to lose traction and results in the car pushing/understeering/plowing/running up the hill/ etc?  This means that even though the driver is getting the most out what the car is capable of doing, the car is not giving the driver everything it is capable of doing.
